Shopping is the examining of goods or services from retailers with the intent to purchase at that time. Shopping is an activity of selection and/or purchase. In some contexts it is considered a leisure activity as well as an economic one.

Shopping in ancient societies

Shopping can be traced back to many civilisations in history. In ancient Rome, there was Trajan's Market with tabernas that served as retailing units. Shopping lists are known to be used by Romans as one was discovered by Hadrian's wall dated back to 75-125 AD and written for a soldier.

What are the basic shopping items needed for one person per week?
Q. I was wondering what the main essential shopping items are for a weeks amount of shopping. Cutting off the biscuits, chocoate, lollies, desert treats etc. Just the basic items, including tolietry and hygeine. This is for one person for one week. Thanks.

A. If you stick to the essentials, you can make a multiplitude of recipies and dishes. However, depending on your budget, you may not need to shop every week, just might need to stock up on a few items. An example is if you buy rice, you should buy a bigger bag which would last a bit longer. Tomatoes or other perishables will most likely be every week. My essentials are basically bread, cereal, milk, sugar, flour, onions, tomatoes(canned & fresh), rice, butter, salt, pepper, lettuce, chicken, ham, mince, some spices, toilet paper, soap, and more. It varies week to week, try out a shop or two and you will find out how much you use/need after a while. Good luck.

What should I consider when shopping for a good home theatre system in the $300-$400 range?
Q. I am shopping for a good system just to watch movies with mostly. What specs are most important. What should I look for?

A. I would advise toward getting a component system. This would be a dvd player and receiver as separate component devices and not an "All in One" device. If you ever plan on getting a next gen DVD player such as Blu-ray you would want to have a surround sound receiver to hook this device up to. If you buy an all in one system with a built in DVD player you will not be able to hook up your cable box to it to get HBO or Stars movies in 5.1 surround sound as most of those devices have non or limited hook-ups. I have hooked up a Sony system for a neighbor of mine that was a 5 disc DVD player & HDMI 6.1 Receiver with speakers and powered subwoofer for that price range...maybe a little more. It worked out well because he had a Sony TV and the… [cont.]

What should I look for when shopping for a plane?
Q. I want speed and a large useful load (like everyone.) This is obviously a first purchase. My maximum budget is around 60 or 70K. I prefer a low wing to a high wing. Any suggestions on a make or model in this price range would be helpful. Also, I don't know about overhaul time, ie, a good amount of time since an overhaul. What is the average amount of hours a plane can fly without being overhauled? How many hours will an airplane last (airframe and total time?) Any other tips on what I should look for when shopping would be very helpful too. I know I'm pressing my luck asking another question but here it goes. I hold a PPL with about 120hrs. Are there certain restrictions on the type of aircraft I can fly such as high… [cont.]

A. Ok, the best planes for that cost would probably be 1960's and 1970's mooney m20's which are capable of 200mph, and cruising at 160 using less than 10gph. They have the same o-360 as a cessna 172, but it has a much more aerodynamic wing, and a kickass tail that has a strait leading edge and sloped trailing edge. They have manual gear and flaps, but nobody even cares because they work really well and save 400lbs. Youll need to get your advanced rating, but its worth it for the extra speed. Oh, and the mooney can carry 4 180lb people 1000 miles and stay within weight and balance guidelines. The only downside is that mooneys float at landing much longer because of that aerodynamic wing, so you cant come in with any extra speed or you risk… [cont.]
