What happened to www.cairo.com, the website that provided price comparisons for local brick&mortar retailers.?
Q. I used to search out the local ads on cairo.com instead of reading the circulars that are printed every week and included weekly in the newspaper. The URL was www.cairo.com, but it disappeared one day. (now you get a travelogue for Egypt!) I thought it was a great service. Wonder if there is another one out there like it. I know about the websites that do the same for online retailers, like PriceGrabber and Froogle...but I want to know if there is another website that checks and compares the local brick-&-mortar retailers sales ads each week.
Asked by mgs4Real - Wed Dec 6 03:44:48 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I guess it's gone. This is a quote from an investor of the old cairo.com: "...when the new CEO sliced and diced the data, a more valuable business came to light - so we're moving in that direction which we think will be larger and more exciting opportunity -- we'll be able to tell you more about in a couple of months."

How good is satellite service?
Q. How does it do in bad weather (snow, rain, windy or cloudy conditions) and which company would you reccommend... I was going for Dish Network because it was cheaper than Directv ( on comparison of Dish Network's America's Top 120 w/120 channels and DirecTV's Total Choice Package w/155 channels). But I don't mind the prices because they are both cheaper than what I'm paying for Time Warner Cable right now which is $54.00 without tax

A. I love mine and get great reception in bad weather. The only exception is if snow actually builds up on the dish (which is rare, even here in Colorado) so have it installed somewhere you can get to it with a broom.

A. I would have done the same thing. If the dealership and shop were closed it does sound reasonable, they don't have to open when closed. If they were open and refused to give you your car, then you have a legal option- I would call police and tell them they are refusing to return your property and the vehicle is stolen.

How to make fax machine work after switched from hardline phone to a VOIP phone service?
Q. After I switched from AT&T hardline phone (PSTN) to iTalkBB Internet phone (VOIP) service, my same voice phone works just fine while my same fax machine does not. A. Actually, you don't need a cable modem with more than 1 port to split your network up. I use a Linksys "5-Port Switch" ($40) connected to the output of my Cable Modem. All you need is an allocation of two IP addresses from Time Warner. Most ISP's that provide HighSpeed Internet also allow you two Dynamic IP Addresses. (You are using Dynamic IP assignment from ISP rather than Fixed IP?) In my case, I had to contact customer support and ask them to "activate" the 2nd dynamic IP (even though they say it is free, I still had to request it to be activated because most people don't know how to use two IP's). Modem connects to Port 4 or 5 (Uplink port) of the Linksys Switch. From the Linksys Switch: - I have a Linksys WRT-54G NAT-Router… [cont.]

Troubleshooting Comast: What exactly are they telling me?
Q. I'm a complete novice with computer and internet jargon. This is an excerpt from Comcast's terms and conditions. What exactly does this mean? Comcast speed tiers range from 4.0Mbps to 8.0Mbps download speed (maximum upload speed from 384Kbps to 768Kbps respectively). The speed tier received and pricing will vary depending upon the level of Comcast video service (if any) received. Speed comparisons are for downloads only and are compared to 1.5Mbps DSL and 56K dial-up. Actual speeds vary and are not guaranteed. Sorry for typos I'm guessing I need these specs. in writing from them? Why would I not want cable/Comcast if I did not plan on gaming or downloading mass content. What is the difference? I cannot use AT&T as they committed… [cont.]

A. They're saying that the more speed you want, the higher the price will be. DSL service often does the same thing. So, for 4.0Mbps speed, you'll pay once price. For 5.0Mbps, you'll pay a little more and so on. Then, they're saying that when they show you how much faster their speeds are, they're comparing them to 1.5Mbps DSL. Not a fair comparison if you ask me. That's like saying my Ford Winstar drives faster (on the freeway) than your corvet does (in the parking lot.) The last line however says that while you are paying for one speed, you may not actually reach that speed. Again, DSL does the same thing.

Q. Hello and good evening. This is a question for UK only readers. After 30 years of faithful service,my old fridge-freezer will be in need of replacement soon.I've got arthritis in many parts of my body and bending down is proving more and more problematic. I am looking for a new upright fridge-freezer which must be frost-free. It is essential for me to have the freezer compartment on the top and the fridge at the bottom. The freezer part must have a minimum of three large compartments. I would also appreciate help with where the best deals are on such fridge-freezers. Size of and storage of such a fridge-freezer is not a problem. I have been on several price comparison websites, but there's nothing better than reading answers from users… [cont.]
