Monetary policy is the process by which the monetary authority of a country controls the supply of money, often targeting a rate of interest. Monetary policy is usually used to attain a set of objectives oriented towards the growth and stability of the economy. These goals usually include stable prices and low unemployment. Monetary theory provides insight into how to craft optimal monetary policy.

Monetary policy is referred to as either being an expansionary policy, or a contractionary policy, where an expansionary policy increases the total supply of money in the economy rapidly, and a contractionary policy decreases the total money supply or increases it only slowly. Expansionary policy is traditionally used to combat unemployment in a recession by lowering interest rates, while contractionary policy involves raising interest rates to combat inflation. Monetary policy is contrasted with fiscal policy, which refers to government borrowing, spending and taxation.

What impact will the Fabian Socialist Monetary Policy of Obama/Bush have on the purchasing power of the Dollar?
Q. Both Bush and Obama have fully embrace Fabian Socialist Monetary Policy. This is further compounded by "Helicopter Berneke" and the printing of fiat dollars to pay for the "stimulus" packages which are being dumped on the economy. How many of you really understand what impact this "Change we can hope for" is going to have on your budget and the value of your dollar?

A. Going on long enough, the thing goes 'Zimbabwe'. Make sure you buy a wheelbarrow to carry the paper money you need to go buy a loaf of bread before it gets that bad.

How does the use of fiscal and monetary policy conflict with the principles of the free enterprise system?
Q. How does the use of fiscal and monetary policy conflict with the principles of the free enterprise system? Under what circumstances should the government interfere in the economy?

A. Well, any policy will affect the flow of capital which impacts on the market. This has gone back to ancient history. Adma SMith in the 18th century wanted a more liberal or free market but his error was that he c onsidered humans as expendible. Karl Marx was right in understanding the motivation of money but out to left field in his answer for it. People are not altruistic and will not work for the common good, just their own. That has to be tapped to some degree for the smooth operation of society.

How can I in a nice way stop giving monetary gifts which I have given for years to children?
Q. I am acquainted with a nice couple who has three nice sons, ages 10, 14 and 18. For years, my husband and I have given the boys checks for their birthdays and at Christmas time as well as for graduations, etc. I would like to discontinue these monetary gifts when they reach 18 years of age, which the oldest one has. What would be a nice way to do this? It so happens the oldest child has a birthday within a day of the youngest one and it does not feel right to give the youngest a check and card and the oldest one just a card.

A. Once you send the card with no money in it, find a comical way to say "sorry, now that you're an adult, you don't get kid gifts" or something and give the hint that it's over with.
